You know what you were saying about the invention of digital fire makes me think of how technology improves when we’re trying to develop things in higher forms. This reminds me of the Race for Space. So much was invented in that time for the benefit of humanity by trying to reach higher levels for humanity. Peter Jackson and Weta did the same. They didn’t just make a movie for the movie’s sake. They were making a higher form of cinema and in the process made an epic that forever changed the world of cinema. George Lucas is one of those too. They’re the reason why things moved forward and why movie from then were so good.

Here's my two unsolicited sourpuss cents before even watching the video: I feel like hobbits were forcefully inserted into an otherwise stoic mythology as a clumsily egoic homage to Tolkien's (mostly) English upbringing. Which isn't to say that it didn't work in the end, but he definitely had to do a noticeable amount of creative gymnastics to integrate the world and story of The Hobbit into the Arda canon. But even beyond the silliness that Hobbits add to the Tolkien universe, their inclusion in the ring gifting scheme would serve as much purpose to Sauron or even themselves as would North Sentinel Island being represented at the U.N.

I quite like the movie version of the quote, where he starts out by saying "you cannot pass", and he ends the speech with "you *shall* not pass". It feels like an increasing level of intensity as the speech goes on, which works really well in the arc of the scene.
